The Book of Mormon

For people that don’t know

"An account written by the hand of Mormon upon plates taken from the plates of Nephi….. an abridgement of the record of Nephi, and also of the Lamanites, who are a remnant of the house of Israel……. An abridgement taken from the Book of Ether also, which is a record of the people of Jared who were scattered at the time the Lord confounded the language of the people, when they were building a tower….." page 1

"written on gold plates ,,, by Mormon. An account of two civilizations . One came from Jerusalem in 600BC and afterwards separated into two nations, the Nephites and the Lamanites. The other came at the time of the Tower of Babel (??? BC) called the
Jaredites. After thousands of years, all were destroyed except the Lamanites, and they are the principal ancestors of the American Indians….. the personal ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ among the Nephites soon after his resurrection. Mormon gave the plates to his son Moroni who buried the plates in the hill Cumorah (421 AD). On Sept 21, 1823 the same Moroni appeared before Joseph Smith and told him about the plates. Page 2

The height of the Jews greatness was under the kings David (1000-961 BC) and Solomon (961-922 BC). After that time, the kingdom was split in two and, in 722 BC, the Assyrians carried the northern kingdom of Israel away. Then, in 597 BC, the southern kingdom of Judea was destroyed. A brief explanation about the book of Mormon

A record of peoples in ancient America, engraved on sheets of metal….. Plates of Nephi, Plates of Mormon, Plates of Ether, and the Plates of brass. Page 7

THE FIRST BOOK OF NEPHI

Before the Babylonians took Jerusalem in 597BC a Jew named
Lehi (later we are told his language was Egyptian so he was not a native of Judha) had been prophesying doom for Judea because of its wickedness. He and his wife Sariah and his four sons; Laman, Lemuel, Sam, and Nephi had to get out of town quick because the angry people wanted to kill him. They travel three days into the wilderness by the Red Sea. They left everything they had behind so after a couple of days the sons go back to get their goods, gold and silver, and the Plates of Brass (the five books of Moses and Jewish history up to the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah). The youngest son, Nephi kills a Big Man that has the plates and they get out of town with the treasure. Later the leader finds a tree of life with a ‘fruit desirable to make one happy, it was white and sweet’. Nephi also eats the fruit and later makes the Plates of Nephi. Nephi has visions where a spirit asks him if he knows about the "condescension of God" (condescension = Patronizingly superior behavior or attitude) Nephi also sees a "Promise Land", gentiles, and a Church of the Devil.

Along with the plates Joe Smith also got some magic stones that translate the plates. Nephi and his family also had an instrument that even sent then directions in the beginning; it was called the Liahona. Next they travel down the coast for "many" days, (If you travel south out of Israel you go down the coast of Saudi Arabia on the eastern side of the Red Sea until you reach the end at Aden in Yemen on the Gulf Of Aden. "We did again take our journey … and did travel nearly eastward from that time forth"… continuing to follow the sea at the Gulf of Aden there is only one direction to go on foot and that is east. "and we did sojourn …. Even eight years in the wilderness." Going east from Aden you go through Yemen and Oman then you would need to go north to Kuwait or east cross the Straights of Hormuz into Iran. Going east from there you cross Pakistan and northern India then through Myanmar, and Laos coming to the Pacific Ocean on the coast of Vietnam or south China, a journey that would take eight years on foot.

Next Nephi is told to make a ship. The father has two more sons, Jacob and Joseph. When the ship is finished they set off for the promised land. They started out and where "blown before the wind for many days" until they arrived in the promised land which had horses and other animals. Sailing east from southern China you would arrive at the area around Panama, a long way from upstate New York where Joseph Smith found the Plates.

THE SECOND BOOK OF NEPHI

Lehi dies. The people can not get along so they split up into two groups, the Nephites and the Lamanites who are cursed for their unbelief with dark skin. Many parts of the Old and New Bibles are retold. Now it is thirty years since they left Jerusalem.

Now if they went over the Straights of Hormuz to the foothills of the Iranian Mountains and stayed there for eight years the story fits. They set sail before the wind and it takes them SOUTH. Off the east coast of Africa between Malawi and Madagascar are a group of islands and one of them is today called Comoros and its capital is called Moroni. The people are black and it would not have been difficult for Jesus to sail south and visit them.

I think this is the story of
Jewish refugees that settled on that island and around 421 AD the story was put on plates. By1823 AD they had been dug up and found their way from Africa to the possession of Joseph Smith, and he concocted the connection to America so that he could have more than one wife. Case closed; not quite. If a sailor had found these plates and had sold them to Smith he still needed to translate them. The text says they where written in the peoples home language of Egyptian and in 1799 the Rosetta Stone was found and in 1822 Jean F. Champollion realized the stone contained a text in three languages; Greek which he could read, Egyptian Hieroglyphics, and an ancient Egyptian everyday writing called Demotic (common). Champollion would have published his work and if Smith at the age of 18 was interested in knowledge he might have found the work and realized he could read the strange ancient plates the sailor was trying to sell to him. He published his work in 1830 (8 years). Smitty would have been a good practicing Christian so he was familiar with the wording of the current bible. Mixing the two stories together was easy; selling it to millions of people would be more difficult. Today we can not understand the reference to Horses and Iron Tools, both of which where not on the Western Hemisphere in 600 BC, but where in western Iran and on the eastern coast of Africa. THE BOOK OF JACOB (Nephi’s brother)

Nephi dies after fifty-five years away from Jerusalem. The Nephites become wicked with a love of riches, pride, and unchastity. The Lamanites become more righteous than the Nephites who love fornication and lasciviousness. The Nephites become wanderers hated by the Lamanites. In the last days the world shall be burned with fire.

THE BOOK OF ENOS (Jacob’s son)

The Lord promises salvation for the Lamanites. It is now 179 years since they left Jerusalem.

THE BOOK OF JAROM (Enos’s son)

It is now 200 years since they left Jerusalem (400 BC). The Nephites turn good but are outnumbered by the now bad Lamanites.

THE BOOK OF OMNI (Jarom’s son)

Omni and five other generations keep the Nephites history on the Plates. It is now 276 years since leaving Jerusalem. Mosiah is told to take the plates and his followers and go away from the Nephites, and he became the king of the "Land of Zarahemla". There he finds another group that had escaped from Jerusalem at the time of the Babylonian captivity, had also sailed to America but had forgotten their language and history. They find a large stone with writing on it that tells of a man named
Coriantumr who with his people had come from the middle-east at the time of the Tower of Babel and had lived to the north. Benjamin becomes king and takes possession of the Plates.

THE WORDS OF MORMON

It is now "many hundred years after the coming of Christ" (385 AD) and
Mormon has "abridged" the Plates and adds his thoughts then gives them to his son Moroni.

THE BOOK OF MOSIAH

Chapter 3:14-19, For the natural man is an enemy to God … unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit … and become a Saint … through atonement …. After a journey the people that had split from the main group is found along with 24 golden Jaredite plates and after a long story they return to the original group under king Mosiah. Tales are told of many people and groups that come and go after many battles. Mosiah translates the 24 plates of Jeredite using Two seer stones which where fastened into the two rims of a bow. It turned out to be the story of a people that had been present at the time of the Tower of Babel but much later had just disappeared. Now it is 509 years (91 BC) since they left Jerusalem and Mosiah dies. Even though Mosiah was a good king the people want no more kings and appoint Judges the first chief being
ALMA. The Book of Mosiah is 62 pages long and mentions many people and peoples along with many battles all completely unknown to historians. I think you would need to look at the area of Africa mentioned above.

THE BOOK OF ALMA

The first Judge of these people tells of more peoples and battles. He talks more about the Lamanites and their shaved heads and dark skin. We are told that the story of the people that came at the time of the Tower of Babel (the Jaredites) had used "secret works... oaths, covenants, signs, wonders, that should not be reveled (37:21-29). This is another very long chapter at 160 pages and is the beginning of talk about Christ so we have them still talking about the Law of Moses but now mixing it with the story of Christ. We are told of the priestcraft and how they are not to work but should be supported by the people. Tales are told of many different tribes that fight with each other. The story suggests that a new religion is being spread, and resisted; more death and destruction.

Read as a history that was recorded hundreds of years later it all makes since. These Jews from Judha that had establish tribes in Africa had been converted to a new religion, one that was born from the old religion; they became early Christians. It had not been an easy conversion and many had died in the fight.

THE BOOK OF HELAMAN

Tells the story up to the time of
Christ. First there is more about the people their differences and battles. Some of the Nephites move north and build houses of cement…

THIRD NEPHI. THE BOOK OF NEPHI

Chapter 11. Christ appears. Twelve are chosen to have the power to baptize. The Mormons say that Jesus came to America and the land was given to them, yet their own book says nothing of the sort. 20:29 …. And I would give unto them again the land of their fathers for their inheritance, which is the land of Jerusalem… nine of the twelve ask for a place in heaven but three ask for the power over death and are still alive today.

FOURTH NEPHI. THE BOOK OF NEPHI

These Jews who had left Judha 600 years before are now converted to Christianity, however they wish to remind everyone that they are the remnant of Israel and are from the House of Jacob. After 200 years divisions arise, after 300 years the Nephites and the Lamanites are wicked.

THE BOOK OF MORMON

Mormon is now the leader of the Nephites and bloodshed is everywhere. Around 367AD the Lamanites (the dark people) are sacrificing the Nephite woman and children to their Idols.

Chapter 6 the Nephites gather in the land of Cumorah for the final battles – Mormon hides the sacred records in the hill of Cumorah – remember that island named Comoros. All are killed except for 24 people including Mormon’s son Moroni. Moroni adds a few words of his own and then buries the plates; he is the last of his people after 1000 years.

So there you have it, a history of a people that spans 1000 years. The way I read it they could have been refuges from 722 BC, when the Assyrians carried the Northern Kingdom of Israel away. They would have taken shelter in Judha then escaped again before the 597 BC destruction by the Babylonians. They moved to the coast of southern Africa and grow in numbers but in the end they are totally wiped out by the "dark" people around 400 AD. Why this is not the end of the book I don’t know but the end is followed by the beginning; so now we go back to the time of the Tower of Babel.

THE BOOK OF ETHER

The record of the Jaredites from the 24 plates. These people had been sent to a new land at the time of the Tower of Babel. (see page 2 note at the beginning)

The above spans 600 BC to 400 AD. The following started at the time of the Tower of Babel (??? BC) and was found on the 24 plates. And here is where things get interesting. If I am correct and this is the history of these people then they picked up along the way another story that came from a long gone group from up north. Up north in Africa goes all the way to the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

These plates of Ether are a morality play along with a history. A people escape at the time of the Tower of Babel and are take to a promise land; I say northern Africa. They prosper, build differences, fight bloody battles for centuries then; the last battle ends with their total destruction, and they are, as a people, no more. We do get to find out what the "secret combinations" and other nastys are about but I wont spoil the story by telling you, read all about it.

THE BOOK OF MORONI

Jesus gave the apostles the power to give the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Elders ordain priests and teachers.

Baptism and fellowship.

No infant baptism.

Believe in Christ.

That is the beliefs of the people of Moroni and the Mormons and here the story ends.

Go look on that island and then go west to the coast of Africa and look for remnants of Jewish tribes that disappeared 1600 years ago.

I could be right OR they might be.
